Reflexology
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet relative to all organ functions and parts of the human body and it is estimated that there are more than 7,000 nerve endings (or reflexes) in the feet alone. By applying pressure to these reflexes, usually with a tiny forward, creeping movement of the thumb or index finger, the
Reflexologist is able to relieve any blockages in the body's energy pathways, thereby
relaxing tension, improving nerve and blood supply and restoring balance to the body. This enables the body to heal itself.Reflexology as we know it today is based on ten zones in the body - five on each side which run from the top of the head down to the tips of the fingers and toes.
Reflexologists believe that where a blockage in one of the channels occurs, this can affect everything in that zone. For example, when a person suffers from sensitivity in the eye area (zone 2) they may also suffer from sensitivity in the kidneys (also in zone 2).
It should be emphasised that
Reflexologists do not diagnose but, where a great sensitivity is found in the foot, this can indicate to the
Reflexologist that there is congestion, inflammation or tension in the corresponding part of the body.
What conditions can Reflexology help?Reflexology is especially beneficial in the treatment of:

- Anxiety
- Arthritis
- Asthma
- Back/Neck Pain
- Depression
- Digestive Disorders
(incl Bowel Conditions and IBS)
- Fertility Problems
- Hayfever
- Insomnia
- Kidney/Bladder Conditions
(incl Cystitis)
- Menstrual/Menopausal Problems
- Migraines
- Muscular Problems
- Neurological Disorders
- Panic Attacks
- Sinusitis
- Skin Conditions
- Stress
Reflexology is also helpful
post-operatively in countering the shock and distress associated with surgery.
Most people find
Reflexology deeply relaxing and, after several regular treatments, usually report a feeling of
well-being. Because of its effects on the immune system many people also use
Reflexology for the maintenance of good health.
The treatment session itselflasts about one hour but the first one will take about half and hour longer as a full case history has to be taken before treatment (this includes medical history and lifestyle).
How many treatments will I need? Most people respond well to six sessions conducted on a weekly basis but chronic conditions tend to take longer. Once the patient reports that their pains or symptoms have greatly improved the appointment gap may be gradually lengthened. After a month's gap free of symptoms or pain, it is then up to the patient as to whether he or she returns for a maintenance treatment, say, once every six weeks or ceases treatments and waits to see what happens.
Treatment PriceI currently charge £27.50 per treatment.
